EC3’s career in WWE has been largely criticized by fans as the company has underutilized him on the main roster. He eventually parted ways with WWE back in 2020. It seems EC3 explained the reason behind him returning to WWE after his first release.
After his departure, EC3 made his return to Impact Wrestling where he had a brief stint. After that, he made his way to other promotions, including ROH. EC3 is a former 4-time 24/7 Champion and once even lobbied for a future match against John Cena.
While speaking on The Ringer Wrestling Podcast, EC3 revealed why he returned to WWE in the first place, after initially getting fired by the company when he worked in the company as Derrick Bateman. EC3 returned to WWE only because he wanted to square off against John Cena and Randy Orton.
“I would have loved to be in the ring with John Cena and Randy Orton. That’s the only reason I came back. Because I remember seeing that promo between Roman and Cena before Cena left for a good while. I remember, I knew how John worked, he’s very much in the moment. They’re not writing for him. Speaking from here, I’m like, ‘God, if this was me, it would be, this would be electric,’ because I kind of work the same way.
But it wasn’t, and it was good. But that’s what made me want, I’ve got to give it a shot to go back and do that. That never happened. Now, I mean maybe, because seeing Control Your Narrative’s not really a wrestling promotion, maybe call the Peacemaker’s agent, have him come down to the Narrative and I could kick his a–. What a great show.”
EC3 first launched “Free The Narrative” in March 2020 after his WWE release and since then has truly built its brand in a huge way. He is working with Braun Strowman and others to launch their own wrestling promotion along with an imminent television deal. It remains to be seen how successful the new pro wrestling promotion will end up becoming.
