Curtis Axel, Joseph Curtis Hennig, had a pretty decent career in the WWE. The 42-year-old signed with the company in 2007 and wrestled at their Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) developmental territory. He won the promotion’s heavyweight and tag team titles.
Axel made his main roster debut alongside The Nexus. He wrestled under the ring name Michael McGillicutty. The company repacked him as Curtis Axel in 2013 as a tribute to his father “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig and grandfather Larry “The Axe” Hennig.
Sean Sapp of Fightful recently confirmed that Axel’s Twitter account was targeted by unidentified hackers. The hackers, claiming to Axel, were trying to sell PS5s to the wrestler’s followers on Twitter.
Axel won the Intercontinental title following his repacking in 2013. He also impersonated WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan’s “Hulkamania” gimmick and turned it into comedy gold.
AxelMania continued to run wild in the WWE for some time. Axel was one of the entrants in the 2015 Royal Rumble but never got a chance to participate in the match as Eric Rowan took his spot by attacking him.
