There is no doubt that Cody Rhodes helped out AEW significantly, both inside the squared circle and backstage as well.  It is not an exaggeration to say he helped build AEW into what it is right now over the past couple of years.

As reported earlier, Cody Rhodes and his wife Brandi have departed from the company earlier this week. This came after they worked in AEW for three years and no one saw this coming at all.

Fans and pro wrestlers alike have already commented on their sudden departure. While speaking on Busted Open Radio, AEW President Tony Khan commented on Cody Rhodes’ departure. Khan stated that he believes Rhodes has something else in the works for his career.

“I put out statements that were from the heart and really positive and I meant it. I wish them both really well and I appreciate everything they did here in their different roles in the company and it’s very sad and not something any of us wanted to happen, I think.

I believe that Cody’s got something else in the works, I’m not sure about that. But we’ll see. I’m sure they’re gonna have great opportunities in wrestling and in life and you never know what’s gonna happen in the future. I wish them the best and I’m very appreciative for everything they did here.

We have really classy people in this locker room. It’s a bunch of really great people and it’s a great vibe at the shows and very congenial so I’m not very surprised by that.

The people in this company are very close and we saw that again this week I think from the way people expressed support and also the way everybody bonded together this week after the fact backstage. Not surprised by that at all.

Everybody has had really good stuff to say and I don’t have much more to say about it, honestly. This is the most I’ve said to anybody about it. I kind of have not been talking a lot about it. Dave, I love coming on and talking to you so you probably pried more out of me than anybody else and I have honestly said nothing to you either, here.”

Khan was almost in tears over the departure of one of the founding fathers of the company after Dynamite went off the air this past Wednesday. WWE is already celebrating Cody Rhodes’ departure as well. We will have to wait and see how Rhodes will fare in WWE, as that seems to be his next pro wrestling destination.
