Cody Rhodes’ departure from AEW and return to WWE is allegedly still up in the air. Rhodes has yet to sign with WWE, according to a report from Fightful, and might possibly return to the business. However, it is still predicted that he will sign with WWE.
The second season of TNT’s “Rhodes to the Top” has not been cancelled, according to reports. The season’s filming has already began. Rhodes also serves as a judge on TBS’ “Go Big Show.” The Wrestling Observer Newsletter just covered Rhodes’ impending exit from AEW.
According to Dave Meltzer, sources close to the matter think that WWE made Rhodes a substantial offer to return to the business. Tony Khan is also thought to have had the option to extend Rhodes’ contract for another two years as part of the three-year pact they signed in 2019. However, it is unclear why Khan failed to do so.
Some close to the situation believed he got such a big offer from WWE after becoming a free agent that he couldn’t turn it down. But there is still the unanswered question of why his contract wasn’t rolled over because legally Khan did have control to prevent this from happening. Both Khan and the Rhodes family had agreed not to comment on the reasons for the split.
There is no doubt that Cody Rhodes helped out AEW significantly, both inside the squared circle and backstage as well. He was the EVP of the company and had numerous responsibilities, all of which he performed to the best of his abilities. We will have to wait and see what Rhodes finally decides.
