Carlos Cabrera has been a trusted member of the WWE commentary team for nearly 30 years. Cabrera has served as a Spanish language announcer for the company since the early 90s. Carlos is familiar to American fans as well, as he was frequently introduced when WWE introduced the international broadcast teams.
WWE has been doing a lot of house cleaning lately. Wrestlers, backstage staff, and even executives have not been safe from the cuts. Carlos Cabrera is the latest WWE employee to receive their release. Lucha Libre Online’s Hugo Savinovich reported the news on Instagram this morning. A Google-translated version of the post can be seen below.
“As Hugo Savinovich has just reported EXCLUSIVELY for Lucha Libre Online, the legendary announcer in Spanish, Carlos Cabrera, has been fired from WWE after 29 years with the company.”
The news was also confirmed via a press release. Michael Morales Torres, the public relations director for Lucha Libre Online penned the short announcement. No reason was given for Carlos Cabrera’s release.
Cabrera became a legendary voice for WWE fans in Spanish-speaking territories. For many, he is the only voice they’ve ever known on WWE programming. Carlos previously worked with Savinovich on the broadcasts along with Ed Trucco and Marcelo Rodriguez.
Carlos could be seen on Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and pay-per-views and premium live events. Cabrera voiced every WrestleMania since WrestleMania 10. Carlos Cabrera will be missed as we head down the road to WrestleMania 38 in Dallas.
