Stone Cold Steve Austin is believed to be making one of the biggest comebacks in wrestling history. Austin has been linked to a match with Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38 in his home state of Texas. Austin’s involvement has been rumored for a long time. The Rattlesnake would be a huge draw for a one-night-only appearance.
It could be that Austin catches the wrestling bug again and decides to come back for more. There are several huge stadium shows as well as the lucrative Saudi Arabia events where Stone Cold could rake in huge money. Fans have speculated that Austin could stick around after seeing the same thing with Lita recently.
Dave Meltzer discussed the possibility on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio. Whether Austin comes back for additional matches will depend largely on his health. There is huge money out there, but Austin may worry that tarnishing his legacy isn’t worth it if he can’t perform at a high level.
“Well, I suppose it depends on how he [Steve Austin] physically feels after doing the one-shot… The thing is, he’s got to be able to avoid injury at that age doing it. I could see him doing Mania and the next Saudi show, but they have a lot of stadium shows coming up.
He would also be diminishing returns. The thing with Austin, which is one of the reasons that he never came back, was because Austin had a pretty high view of his own wrestling and I don’t think he wanted to come back as, you know, a diminished wrestler. I don’t know. I just heard that he’s going to be at Mania. I could see him, you know, perhaps being a regular in some form in a non-wrestling fashion. I could see that, and maybe wrestle every now and then.
I don’t know. There’s a lot of money in wrestling right now and maybe he saw kind of like a deal with Edge where you can do three matches and get just an incredible amount of money. Maybe he’s going to do that. I don’t know.”
The WWE Universe will have to wait and see what happens with Stone Cold Steve Austin. At the moment, nothing is even confirmed for WrestleMania. Many within WWE believe it’s a done deal. If it is, and Austin can stay healthy, there might be one more run in the offing.
