Big E was recently moved back to SmackDown where he was reunited with New Day partner Kofi Kingston. The former WWE Champion’s singles push is all but over, but fans were excited to see Kofi and E back together. Vince McMahon was missing the magic that the two create together.
Many in the WWE Universe were disappointed that Big E didn’t get a longer run with the title. Even Big E himself wasn’t thrilled with it. There is always the chance that Big E could be booked as a single at any time in the future.
A report from Fightful Select noted that Vince McMahon himself wanted Kofi and Big E to be together on television. While Big E was doing his singles run, he preferred to keep him separate from any groups. Now that it’s over, for the time being, Big E and Kofi are back together. Vince also offered one of his signature quirks when he moved Big E to SmackDown.
“New Day member Big E has been moved to WWE Smackdown to rejoin his New Day teammates. In an interesting note, we’re told that Vince McMahon was adamant that Kofi Kingston and Big E not be referred to as “New Day,” and instead be called “Big E & Kofi Kingston,” which was how they were announced Big E’s first week back. However, internally and on the company’s Youtube, apparently that message didn’t get through, as they were listed as New Day on both. However, the following week, that had changed.”
Vince McMahon is known for his various quirks when it comes to verbiage. Lists of banned words have circulated online for years. McMahon even had special rules for when Mickie James appeared as Impact Knockouts Champion.
WWE fans will likely continue to refer to them as The New Day. The name is synonymous with the group. We’ll see if Vince McMahon changes his mind about this very strange edict.
