Lita made her return at the WWE Royal Rumble and immediately made an impact. Despite thinking it was a one-off, Lita was placed into a huge program with Becky Lynch. The two are set to square off in a generational battle at WWE’s Elimination Chamber premium live event.
Lita said she was thrilled to have the opportunity to wrestle Becky. Things could have been very different. There were several reports that Lita received an offer from Tony Khan and All Elite Wrestling.
Lita discussed her decision to forego the AEW offer and stick with WWE in a recent interview with Esquire Middle East. The WWE legend thinks AEW is doing great things. She just didn’t think the fit was right.
“AEW is doing exciting stuff. It’s brought new life in the industry. Any time there’s competition, it’s good. It revives the industry. When they reached out to me, I did consider it. I said, ‘We can talk, I’m interested, you guys are doing some interesting stuff.’
But ultimately, upon talking to them, it just made me say to myself, ‘But I have all of these things already!’ I have those things with my home that I’ve known for 20 years, with the people that I’ve worked with for 20 years. Basically, I gave them my blessing. I said, I will watch you and I support you. And I want you guys to do great, but this just doesn’t feel like the right fit for me right now,”
In the end, Lita decided to stick with what she knows and have another run with WWE. A program with Britt Baker in AEW would’ve been great. It didn’t happen, and now Lita has her sights set on the Raw Women’s Champion.
