Larry D announced last week that he had asked for his release from Impact Wrestling. The company ultimately agreed to let him go. Tag team partner Acey Romero left under similar circumstances in the Fall of 2021. The pair were used very sporadically by the promotion.
Larry spoke to Fightful Select about his departure from the company. The parting was mutual and done in a very respectful manner. Larry D doesn’t have a bad word to say about management or talent in the promotion.
Larry went so far as to say that he even offered to do WrestleHouse despite no longer being an active wrestler for Impact. The big man is even open to returning to the company if they have the right creative plans for him. For now, he wants to play the field. Sean Sapp broke it down.
“Fightful spoke to Larry D for his first interview since leaving IMPACT Wrestling, which he says was on very good terms. He asked for his release because he wasn’t being used on TV and wants to be “on the field” so to speak, and is very open to returning to IMPACT if there’s ever any creative plans for him. He spoke highly of IMPACT from a talent, management and company level, and said that he’d even be open to doing WrestleHouse again despite leaving the company.”
Larry D noted that he is open to working just about anywhere. AEW, WWE, MLW, NWA, and GCW were the promotions he specifically named. Larry will now be free to try his luck and negotiate with any of them.
Impact Wrestling seems to have treated Larry D with the utmost professionalism. We’ll have to wait and see where Larry ends up. It’s an extremely flooded free-agent market with a dwindling number of options.
