Mustafa Ali has been adamant that he wants out of WWE. Ali has publicly asked the company for his release. That request has been denied. Mustafa is currently in limbo, as he remains under contract with Vince McMahon’s promotion.
WWE has no intention of granting Mustafa Ali his release at this time. He has not been on TV since he had a backstage argument with Vince McMahon over the direction of his character. There are no current plans for Ali in WWE.
Sean Sapp reported the latest update on Fightful Select. An interesting thing to point out is that Mustafa Ali has more than a year on his current WWE contract. If things don’t change, it could be a long time before Ali gets his chance to shine again.
“Fightful learned via WWE sources that the term “value” was used in reasoning behind keeping Mustafa Ali under contract. He’s not been brought back to TV since an argument with Vince McMahon over creative direction. Despite those two things, as of now, we’re told there are no working plans in creative for Mustafa Ali, which could certainly change at any moment. We’re also told there is little correspondence, if any, between the two sides.
Beyond that, Fightful learned that Mustafa Ali still has “well over a year, at least” on his WWE deal, although we haven’t heard of a specific expiration date on the deal.”
The #FreeAli movement has taken hold as fans try to convince WWE to let Mustafa Ali go. WWE has not budged an inch thus far. We’ll see if the continued pressure from Ali and the public makes any difference in WWE’s approach to the future of Ali.
