WWE released several employees including WWE Superstars over the past couple of years. This started with the release of Superstars such as Chelsea Green and Mickie James. Lana was a part of those cuts eventually, but it seems WWE expected her to make a return.

Back in June of last year, WWE held yet another round of cuts from the company and it featured several big names such as Braun Strowman and Lana. She was let go due to her lucrative contract with WWE, which Lana signed back in 2019.

The Women’s Royal Rumble match featured several female competitors from WWE’s past and present. As reported earlier, WWE was interested in having Lana appear for the Royal Rumble.

According to PWinsider, the officials had reached out Lana for an appearance. There were also those who believed as late as the Rumble week that the Ravishing Russian would be coming back.

WWE had reached out to the former Lana, CJ Perry about making a surprise appearance in the Women’s Rumble match, but obviously, it never happened.  There were some in the company who thought that as late as the week of the Rumble that it was happening but as they got closer to the PPV, her name was no longer mentioned

Miro already commented on Lana possibly joining AEW, as he noted that it is ultimately her decision. She also dropped huge tease about making her AEW debut previously. It remains to be seen what is next in store for Lana now that she is finally free.
