CM Punk made his All Elite Wrestling debut a few months ago at AEW Rampage: The First Dance. It certainly changed the pro wrestling world as many people took notice of the company. Tony Schiavone considered it the greatest debut in pro wrestling history.

CM Punk has become one of the mainstays of AEW television and has feuded against the likes of Darby Allin, Eddie Kingston and others. Finally, CM Punk started a long-awaited feud with MJF.

For some fans, CM Punk’s run in AEW so far has been largely lacklustre and they feel that Punk simply isn’t at the level he used to be. During last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, MJF destroyed Punk after he sent Wardlow and the rest of his followers after hm in the ring.

The segment ended with a very one-sided beatdown with no one coming in to save Punk. While speaking on the Jim Cornette Experience, Jim Cornette criticized CM Punk and MJF’s angle for not being believable. It was largely due to no one from the locker room coming out to save Punk.

”You really cannot tell me if a gang of people is beating the biggest star in the company and it is not supposed to happen that somebody would not try to do something avout it. It really is distracting from the angle when they are not trying to do something. That is exactly why when you set these things up you explain to the people that are supposed to be trying to do something what they are supposed to be doing, or what they are trying to do, and then not succeed.

No bell, no referees, no help. They beat him up and then MJF sits cross legged on his chest and says see you in Chicago and this had to last 20 minutes. I could have done with half this long and I could’ve done with a little more urgent chaotic physicality and believable violence at the end instead of a sports entertainment angle where no body tries to stop the crime that is taking place.”

CM Punk is set to square off against MJF on AEW Dynamite this week in Chicago. It remains to be seen how whether he will be able to defeat The Salt Of The Earth or not.
