Lita is most certainly one of the pioneers of women’s wrestling in the pro wrestling world. She has paved the way for future generations of female pro wrestlers. It seems she fired back at her critics as well.
The WWE Hall of Famer made her return to WWE television on a previous episode of Friday Night Smackdown. She then competed during the Women’s Royal Rumble match on January 29th.
Lita did a tremendous job in the match as she eliminated her long-time rival Mickie James and lasted a long time as well. Despite this, there are many critics who felt she took a spot that could have gone to younger talent.
While speaking on Booker T’s Hall of Fame podcast, Lita addressed the criticism of her appearing during the match. Lita stated that she believes it is short-sighted to not expect older generation stars to return sometime.
I mean if you are going to make an entire show, you should be well aware that there are people coming in for a night or a short time, it is to build and to mix and to get older generations of stars who may have fallen out of wrestling to pop back in and now they are with you. For the current roster not to see to that way is short-sighted, right? Just let these people who have come in and paved the way spark energy and maybe bring some of their old fans back, and then we will take off and leave them there with you. And now the ball is back in your court, it is in your hands to pull these extra fans back on board.”
As reported earlier, AEW had also planned on bringing Lita to the company for a feud with Britt Baker last year, but that didn’t end up happening. We will have to wait and see whether Lita will have one final run in the company or not.
