The WWE Royal Rumble is one of the most anticipated events of the year. Tonight’s show brings with it even more buzz than usual. Several former WWE stars are making their returns and there is a ton of speculation over possible surprise entrants and even visitors from other companies. Aside from the Rumble matches themselves, there is plenty for fans to sink their teeth into.

With two one-hour blocks already set aside for the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches, WWE will have to schedule the rest of the fights to fit. There are several non-Rumble matches scheduled. Dave Meltzer spoke about how WWE might lay things out on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio.

“It’s [Edge & Beth Phoenix vs Miz and Maryse] not going to be a classic match. But, it will be laid out in a fashion that will be pleasing to most people… If it was on a different show, I would say they’re going to get over 20, because they just will, and that may not be the best.

But, on this show, when you’ve got the two one-hour matches and Roman and Seth. I’ve got to think Roman and Seth are going twenty plus. Lesnar and Lashley I don’t think will. They might, but I would be surprised.

But Roman and Seth I think will do a long match. You got the two matches that will probably do anywhere between 45 and an hour plus. So, yeah, you don’t have a lot of time to spare probably for that match, which is for the best.

This match is more basic psychology. That’s the big build, for Beth Phoenix just to go in there and do the stuff and the men are there to set up the women. And, you know, Miz is going to run away. Edge is good, he never disappoints.”

It sounds like Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins are set for the longest non-Royal Rumble match of the night. The mixed tag match will serve its purpose but won’t be a technical masterpiece. Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley should be short and violent. There is a little something for everyone on this year’s WWE Royal Rumble card.
