WALTER had a stellar run in NXT UK as he became the longest-reigning champion in modern WWE as he held the NXT UK Title for a record 870 days. He would lose the title to Ilja Dragunov at NXT TakeOver 36.

WWE has a habit of changing up talents names for usually no reason whatsoever. That also includes shortening the names of their talents. WALTER was subjected to this as well.

As seen on last weeks episode of NXT 2.0, WALTER squared off against Roderick Strong in a singles match. After defeating Strong, WALTER revealed that he is now called GUNTHER, which certainly angered fans.

While speaking on his Hall Of Fame podcast, Booker T talked about WALTER’s name change to GUNTHER. Booker T believed that the name change will ultimately not hurt him in the long run and that people will forget about it entirely.

“Everybody from that side of the world needs to be supporting him to bring more and more ratings to this show. We’ve got a diamond here, we need to let him shine. That’s what I’ve always said about Walter. Now Walter, of course having the name change, that has caused a stir on the internet. A lot of people don’t like it. The thing is, it’s not something I like either. But it’s not my business to think about what his name is.

We were having this same conversation three months ago maybe with Steiner and Breakker. Is anybody thinking about Bron Breakker now? Is anybody thinking about it? Everybody is talking about how freaking awesome Bron Breakker is. That’s the only thing I hear now.

Changing his name, I don’t think that’s something that is going to hinder him or hurt him in any way. When he goes out there to perform in the middle of the thing, I think people will forget it pretty soon.”

Even Keith Lee felt sorry for WALTER after his name got changed, We will have to wait and see how GUNTHER will be booked in the coming weeks as his time in NXT 2.0 has already gotten off to an unpleasant start.
