WALTER had a stellar run in NXT UK as he became the longest-reigning champion in modern WWE as he held the NXT UK Title for a record 870 days. He would lose the title to Ilja Dragunov at NXT TakeOver 36.
WWE has a habit of changing up talents names for usually no reason whatsoever. That also includes shortening the names of their talents. WALTER was also subjected to this as well.
On this weeks episode of NXT 2.0, WALTER squared off against Roderick Strong in a singles match. After defeating Strong, WALTER revealed that he is now called Gunther, which certainly angered fans.
WWE producer Shane Helms took to Twitter and made it clear that he believes WALTER will not have any issues after his name change. He used himself as an example to prove his point.
In my WWE TV debut, I lost:
-My name
-My gimmick
-My entrance
-My entrance song
-My finisher
-And my WCW Cruiserweight Championship. ALL IN ONE NIGHT.If I survived that, Walter will be just fine.
Even Keith Lee felt sorry for WALTER after his name got changed, We will have to wait and see how WALTER will be booked in the coming weeks as his time in NXT 2.0 has already gotten off to an unpleasant start.
