WWE has been making some major changes to NXT. The initial shock of the new, colorful set and focus on young athletes with little wrestling experience has been followed by a complete overhaul. Several major backstage names including William Regal and Samoa Joe were fired by WWE recently.
Scotty 2 Hotty got out once he saw the writing on the wall. Scotty was working as a coach for WWE’s developmental brand. The attitude era star could feel the paranoia creeping in.
Scotty recently appeared as a guest on Talk is Jericho. The two discussed Vince McMahon’s vision for the new NXT. Vince told his coaches he wanted them to look younger.
“Hunter went away and the other guys started to come in. It was, ‘Ok, we gotta get back to business casual again.’ The next week it was, ‘Vince wants the coaches looking younger, so we need you guys to start dyeing your beards and cutting your hair.
I literally lost sleep over it. I’ve had every kind of facial hair, dye, goatee, the beard, spiked up hair, bald head. It’s not about that. It’s like, if they’re going to have us jump through hoops like monkeys just to see if they’ll do it, so if you do that, what’s next?”
WWE seems to be very serious about the new direction for NXT. A shift from the days when Triple H was running the show has been apparent. Scotty 2 Hotty knew it was coming and decided to hit the road.
What do you think of Scotty 2 Hotty’s take? Let us know in the comments!
