Raquel Gonzalez has done just about everything there is to do in NXT. The NXT Women’s Championship has previously been in her grasp. Dakota Kai won the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles with Gonzalez to become the first champions. Many believed Raquel was due for a main roster call up.
Gonzalez’ romantic partner, Braun Strowman, has been an advocate for Raquel on the main roster for months. The WWE Universe thinks she’s ready as well. It seems like only a matter of time before the former champ shows up on Raw or SmackDown.
On today’s Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez discussed Raquel’s future. Alvarez believes Gonzalez will have a short detour before her main roster call up. WWE wants to keep her in NXT because they need her for the upcoming Dusty Rhodes Classic tag team tournament.
“You know who showed up out of the blue? Raquel Gonzalez. She’s on her way out [of NXT], but they had to bring her back because they have a tournament coming up and they don’t have any teams for it! So they had to figure out who is going to be in this tournament. We’ve announced a tournament, but we have no teams.”
Raquel Gonzalez is one of several NXT talents who have recently worked dark matches before Raw and Smackdown. Tommaso Ciampa and Pete Dunne have also been getting a closer look. All three could arrive on the main roster soon.
We’ll see if Raquel makes her debut on one of the main shows in the near future. Gonzalez is a major talent with a great look and all the right moves. The Dusty Classic could be just a stepping stone on the way to greater heights.
