WALTER had a stellar run in NXT UK as he became the longest-reigning champion in modern WWE as he held the NXT UK Title for a record 870 days. He would lose the title to Ilja Dragunov at NXT TakeOver 36.

WWE has a habit of changing up talents names for usually no reason whatsoever. That also includes shortening the names of their talents. WALTER was also subjected to this as well.

On this weeks episode of NXT 2.0, WALTER squared off against Roderick Strong in a singles match. After defeating Strong, WALTER revealed that he is now called Gunther, which certainly angered fans.

Lance Storm took to Twitter and reacted to the backlash after WWE changed WALTER’s name. Storm made it clear that he isn’t surprised by WWE changing WALTER’s name by using himself as an example.

”Need I remind everyone Vince saw me as the partying dancing guy. Gunther is too much of a stretch all of a sudden?”

We will have to wait and see how WALTER will be booked in the coming weeks as his time in NXT 2.0 has already gotten off to a less-than-desirable start.
