Mustafa Ali had been working in WWE for quite a long time and was one of the most talented in-ring competitors in the entire company. He is also the former leader of Retribution. It seems WWE nixed a huge WrestleMania match for him as well.
Mustafa Ali’s previous program in WWE saw him involved in a feud/mentorship with Mansoor on Monday Night RAW. Mansoor did not have any say in the relationship whatsoever. After that, he developed a controversial character which was ultimately nixed by the company after a while.
Ali requested his release from WWE, which came as no surprise for many fans. Last year, Ali and Kofi Kingston were engaged in a feud and they might have had a great match at WrestleMania as well. While speaking with Metro, Kofi Kingston revealed that there were plans for him to face Ali at WrestleMania 37 last year. However, the plans were ultimately nixed and Kofi Kingston teamed up with Xavier Woods faced AJ Styles and Omos.
“It was perfect! It was written, you didn’t even have to go out of your way to creatively write anything else, it was perfect! But alas, that’s not the direction that the office, I guess, wanted to go in. I was told a few things, and we start working towards those things we’re told, and then all of a sudden it’s not those things. That’s really kind of standard fare for us.”
Mustafa Ali also had a heated argument with Vince McMahon over his direction in WWE, which ultimately led to him being sent home weeks ago. We will have to wait and see whether Mustafa Ali will be granted his release or not.
