WWE has been sued by Major League Wrestling for uncompetitive practices. Court Bauer’s organization made some heavy allegations against the wrestling giant. MLW claimed WWE blocked a streaming deal that would’ve been transformative for MLW. WWE Lawyer Jerry McDevitt has now responded.
McDevitt had some quotes in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter about the litigation. The long-time WWE legal rep said he hasn’t looked over the suit because it has not yet been served. McDevitt thinks MLW is going after the wrong party.
“I have not seen the full lawsuit since WWE has not been served
If Tubi breached, then sue Tubi. As to Vice, WWE has no commercial relationship with them or for that matter any of the other dozens of content distribution entities with whom MLW could do a deal with if they had a commercially viable product. They put a show on Vice, if my memory serves me correctly after one of the Dark Side shows and lost most of the audience. I think I read they got 40,000 viewers. No wonder Vice did no further deal.”
Bauer made a statement accusing WWE of wrongly depriving its competitors of opportunities for years. The MLW head believes that what WWE did to his company is anti-competitive and unconscionable. Time will tell if his accusations hold up in court.
WWE has a powerful legal machine behind the company. Jerry McDevitt successfully defended Vince McMahon in his controversial steroid trial. MLW has a long way to go in their ongoing lawsuit against WWE.
