Corey Graves made headlines yesterday when a report said he had been cleared to compete by WWE. Fans quickly speculated that Graves would make his return at the upcoming Royal Rumble premium live event. There was a lot of speculation from all corners of the wrestling world.

Graves was forced to retire in 2014 after a experiencing post-concussion symptoms. It was reported that Graves was given the OK for physical contact all the way back in 2020. Several within or close to WWE made the same claim.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer went into further detail about the situation. While Graves was able to do the 24/7 Championship angle, it is not likely that he will return to full-time competition in the ring.

“Corey Graves was cleared by WWE doctors in 2020. The gist is that WWE medical ruled out Graves taking any physical contact due to a post-concussion issue in 2014 and he retired at that point.

Then he was made NXT announcer and did well enough that he’s been viewed as the main color guy on the main roster for years. Obviously while he can return to wrestle, he’s not going to.”

Corey Graves is as close as he could be to returning to WWE as a wrestler. Based on this report, it doesn’t sound like that will be the case any time soon. That likely won’t stop the wild speculation about the in-ring future of Corey Graves.
