CM Punk and MJF continued their collision course on last night’s AEW Dynamite. Punk faced off against Maxwell’s monster, Wardlow. Punk got the victory in the one-sided affair with a roll-up after taking several powerbombs.
Wardlow and MJF continued to tease their split. Punk sold injuries in and around the ring for several minutes after the bout. Lance Storm didn’t think any of it made sense.
Storm spoke about his distaste for the angle on the latest Wrestling Observer Live. The former Canadian champion doesn’t think the segment did anyone any favors. Lance believes the segment was very damaging to CM Punk.
“It was like, ‘Oh my god, Wardlow lost. Wardlow’s going to be angry about this.’ Wardlow had two visual victories over Punk. Wardlow was the rightful winner. And it’s like, this segment damaged Punk a lot.
It completely made me not care about Punk-MJF anymore. Everyone’s into MJF-Wardlow. Quite probably, because they’re good promo guys, they can dig themselves out of this hole. But I don’t understand putting them [Punk in particular] this deep in a whole that they have to talk their way out of. This was a very damaging segment.”
Fans will have to wait and see how the angle plays out. CM Punk is set to take on Shawn Spears next week as he continues his pursuit of a match with MJF. Wardlow looked incredibly strong in the losing effort. Lance Storm thinks it might have hurt Punk’s credibility.
