Britt Baker had a solid 2021. There’s no denying that. She wore a crimson mask during a brutal unsanctioned match against Thunder Rosa on March 18th and went on to win AEW Women’s Championship from Hikaru Shida on May 30th.
Her tremendous accomplishments in AEW prompted Pro Wrestling Illustrated (PWI) to award her the fourth spot on their top 150 Women’s Wrestlers list for 2021. Baker also graced the magazine’s cover along with CM Punk.
The AEW Women’s Champion took to Twitter to thank her peers and mentors including former AEW World Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega and coach Jerry Lynn. She also credited Omega and AEW head honcho Tony Khan for her DMD gimmick.
Eternally thankful for these two guys. The first independent wrestling t-shirt I bought as a fan was a Kenny one. Pretty cool to now call him both a mentor and a friend. Tony has never doubted me, even when it felt like most of the world did! Without these two there’s no DMD.
Baker previously tweeted that 2021 was good to her but she earned the opportunity through sheer hard work and determination, adding that she helped built the promotion’s women’s division.
It’s great to see Britt Baker getting the recognition she rightfully deserves. The DMD persona has become one of the hottest characters in AEW. As for Baker, she aligned herself with real-life beau Adam Cole on the Jan. 12th edition of Dynamite.
