John Cena’s accolades in the pro wrestling world certainly do not need any introductions. He carried the company as the face of WWE for over a decade and was called Big Match John for a reason. It seems he was surprised by fan reaction to his latest WWE return.
Cena returned at the WWE Money In The Bank pay-per-view in July last year, and he immediately got involved in a feud with Roman Reigns. Their feud culminated in the main event of WWE SummerSlam for the Universal Championship.
For most of his career, Cena was a highly divisive Superstar as he had both huge fans and haters as well. “Cena Sucks” chants were very common when he used to compete. However, that was not the case during his latest return in WWE, as a lot of fans actively cheered for him.
While speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, John Cena talked about the positive fan reaction he received after returning to the company following a hiatus that lasted over a year. The leader of Cenation admitted that he was genuinely surprised by the reaction.
“Summer of Cena to me, I was genuinley surprised at every single arena I went to because it’s usually a lot more, as Michael Cole would say, polarizing than that. So that was kind of my first experience where I would say a majority of the audience appreciated my presence there because normally that is not the case. You try to go out and play a character of virtue, a character with the virtuous foundation, and people tell you to f*** off. The fans really would tell me that, and that’s a that’s an interesting combination. I think that’s what makes WWE beautiful in the live audience so special is because they decide how they feel about characters.”
John Cena also made it clear he isn’t done with WWE by a long shot. We will have to wait and see when John Cena will return to the company as fans will always be glad to see the Leader of Cenation back in any capacity.
