Big E truly had a long and difficult road to the top of WWE. After a solid run on NXT, he was called up to the main roster but was eventually lost in the shuffle. It seems Big E opened up about his first reign as WWE Champion.

Big E won the WWE Championship after cashing in his Money In The Bank briefcase on Bobby Lashley on an episode of Monday Night RAW back in September. Fans were certainly elated at his win and had a lot of expectations for his WWE Championship reign.

At the WWE Day 1 pay-per-view, Big E defended his WWE Championship against Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, Bobby Lashley and Brock Lesnar. To the shock of many, Brock Lesnar pinned Big E after hitting an F5 and won the match, thereby becoming the new WWE Champion.

Many fans felt Big E’s first reign as the WWE Champion left much to be desired as fans wanted better for him. While speaking with Sports Illustrated, Big E talked about his previous run as the WWE Champion. Big E admitted he wasn’t happy with his reign as the champion.

“I wanted it to be a five-course meal, and it was more of an appetizer. I’m overly critical of my work to begin with, so I wouldn’t say I was happy with it. My hope was to knock it out of the park, and I fell a bit short. So it’s motivating to start that climb back.”

Big E was also the favorite to win the Men’s Royal Rumble match this year. We will have to wait and see whether Big E will end up winning the Royal Rumble and getting the WrestleMania moment he has always wanted.
