Scott Armstrong was of the mainstays of WWE when it came to being a referee and also in a backstage role. He was also recently let go as part of WWE’s latest cuts. It seems he took the blame for a recent awkward match.
The company decided to release numerous talents and members of staff right after NXT’s New Year’s Evil this week. This included names such as Armstrong’s brother Road Dogg as well.
According to Fightful, Scott Armstrong took the blame for the awkward referee spots in the Becky Lynch vs Liv Morgan at the WWE Day 1 pay-per-view. It was also said that one pro wrestling promotion was interested in hiring him as a wrestler.
Scott Armstrong had been working in timing out the shows, and was a referee for years for WWE. He oversaw a lot of the NXT refereeing staff, and shouldered the blame for the direction that led to awkward refree spots during the Becky Lynch vs. Liv Morgan Day 1 match. We’re told this wasn’t why he was let go, however. At least one promotion has already expressed interest in booking Scott Armstrong as a wrestler, as he’s known to stay in shape and was a good worker in his day. His father wrestled until he was almost 80.
It was also said that WWE targeted Triple H’s people in the latest slew of NXT cuts. We will have to wait and see how the company will fare with so many significant employees getting fired.
