Gabe Sapolsky is a backstage name familiar to many wrestling fans. Sapolsky worked with Paul Heyman in ECW. Early Ring of Honor had his fingerprints all over it. Gabe eventually went on to be hired by WWE in 2018 to work as a consultant. That tenure appears to be over.
Sapolsky is one of many WWE staffers to be released over the past few days. The influential wrestling mind announced his departure on Twitter. Gabe thanked everyone and included a quote from Rush drummer Neil Peart as he said his goodbye.
“Looks like the end of the road. Thank you everyone. Love you all!”
“I don’t regret that the ride has to be over, but rather feel grateful for the miles travelled, for the sights along the way, and to be exactly where I am.”
The career of Gabe Sapolsky began in 1993 when he wrote company newsletters for Extreme Championship Wrestling. Gabe rose through the ranks and oversaw everything from marketing to public relations during his time with Heyman’s organization. RF Video hired Sapolsky after ECW shut down and the seeds were planted for what would become Ring of Honor.
Gabe Saplsky has done it all in the professional wrestling business. Sapolsky won the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Best Booker award four years in a row while holding the pencil for Ring of Honor. The respect he earned for his hard work eventually led him to join WWE.
The massive roster and staff cuts at WWE have to be concerning for everyone working at the company. Several major names who once seemed untouchable have been fired this week. Not even William Regal was safe. Gabe Sapolsky is hoping to find a safe place to land given his decades of experience in wrestling.
