Brock Lesnar is one of the greatest forces of nature ever to compete in WWE. Lesnar is one of the company’s biggest draws and is a legitimate monster with huge mainstream appeal. That means Brock has more influence in the company than almost any other superstar. In 2017, he used that influence to change the main event at Survivor Series.

Jinder Mahal held the WWE Championship for nearly six months in 2017. Mahal mysteriously lost the title on an episode of SmackDown to AJ Styles. The Phenomenal One beating Jinder was not the original plan.

Dave Meltzer discussed Jinder’s reign on a recent broadcast of Wrestling Observer Radio. Meltzer said the original plan was for Mahal to defend the title at Survivor Series against Brock. Lesnar made sure the match never happened.

“You know why they did that? Because Brock did not want to work with him [Jinder Mahal],”

Brock went on to have a fantastic match at Survivor Series against Styles. Things could have gone very differently if Lesnar had been willing to work with Jinder Mahal. No reason was given for Lesnar not wanting to have the match.

The story is ironic given Brock Lesnar’s past. Stone Cold Steve Austin famously walked away from WWE after he refused to put over Lesnar in his early days with the company. That may indicate that Brock has even more pull backstage than one of the greatest superstars in WWE history.
