By now the news that Bron Breakker is the new NXT Champion has certainly made the rounds, but a recent interview he did with Fightful Select sheds some light on his meteoric rise and trajectory to becoming the new face of NXT in what seems like record time.

As it turns out, he found out he was premiering on NXT 2.0 a single day before it came to fruition, and his start in the pro wrestling business was as equally quick. He also hinted at the involvement his uncle Scott Steiner also had in his career early on, and at his apprehension for his epic New Year’s Evil entrance.

“He told us that he knew that he was debuting on NXT 2.0 the day before it happened. Prior to that he’d just been worried about learning and practicing his craft.

For the New Year’s Evil entrance, he didn’t get a lot of advance notice, and was admittedly cautious of something going wrong and the set being pulled down. Speaking of that, he actually had his first match in the fall of 2020, when he went to a signing with Scott Steiner. Scott said “hey by the way, you’re wrestling,” and he had a match without knowing what he was doing.

Breakker told us that he always has wanted to wrestle, so as soon as football was over for him, he wanted to get to WWE. He’d attended an AEW show while in college, but wasn’t actively recruited. Instead, his dad Rick had a lot of contacts there and was visiting his friends. Breakker also spoke highly of WWE’s new NIL program with college athletes.”

Meteoric rise aside, Breakker has had quite the run, with an equal dose of support from the NXT fans. Pro wrestling is quite obviously in his blood and the nod of acknowledgement at the end of the match from Tommaso Ciampa to him, was the poetic end that all Black and Gold NXT fans perhaps wanted. What a feud and what a match it undoubtedly was.

The future is a big question mark for Breakker, of course, but to anyone paying attention, it seems that he should be at the top of the industry in no time…especially if things move along at the pace that they have already been moving in.
