CM Punk made his All Elite Wrestling debut a few months ago at AEW Rampage: The First Dance. It certainly changed the pro wrestling world as many people took notice of the company. Tony Schiavone considered it the greatest debut in pro wrestling history.
CM Punk has become one of the mainstays of AEW television and has feuded against the likes of Darby Allin, Eddie Kingston and others. Finally, CM Punk started a long-awaited feud with MJF.
As seen on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite Holiday Bash, CM Punk paid homage to Sting’s Surfer persona with his face paint during the main event of the show. It led to Punk trending on social media after teaming up with Sting as well.
While speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Sting talked about CM Punk’s ability to draw an audience. Sting gave massive props to Punk for that and even said that he can get Road Warrior level of pops.
“CM Punk, he’s truly amazing to me. Hearing the crowd respond to him, it’s made me turn back the clock and think of all the different memorable reactions over the years to different wrestlers. I’ve especially been thinking about The Road Warriors. Animal was really big on that. He would say, ‘This guy got a huge pop, but it wasn’t a Road Warrior pop.’ That’s what Punk gets.”
It remains to be seen how AEW will keep on booking CM Punk and MJF’s feud as it further intensifies each week and fans can’t get enough of it.
