WWE has been on the hunt for new and young talent to replace over eighty wrestlers who have been cut by the company in the past year. They recently announced a new collegiate NIL program to create a pipeline of elite varsity athletes. They are focused on building future stars that can headline WrestleMania someday.
The search has focused largely on athletes from other sports and wrestlers with less experience. The company has shown a willingness to at least consider more seasoned professionals. The latest tryout at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando included one such big name.
Reigning ROH Women’s Champion Rok-C was at the latest tryout. She worked out in front of Matt Bloom, John Laurinaitis, and others in hopes of getting a deal with the company. There were several other notable names at the tryout as well.
The daughter of Santino Marella took part in the audition. So did the sons of D-Von Dudley. Notorious Mimi was also there. Mimi is a regular on AEW’s YouTube program, Dark.
Rok-C made what could be her final defense of the ROH title against Willow Nightingale at the recent Final Battle PPV. The company previously announced that it was releasing all of their contracted wrestlers and hoping to re-launch in the Spring of 2022. Many of those wrestlers have already jumped ship and signed elsewhere.
The future of the ROH Women’s championship is in question. If Rok-C signs with the company, she would obviously have to give up the title. It will be interesting to see what happens with this and the other ROH championships as wrestlers continue to move on to greener pastures.
