CM Punk made his All Elite Wrestling debut a few months ago at AEW Rampage: The First Dance. It certainly changed the pro wrestling world as many people took notice of the company. Tony Schiavone considered it the greatest debut in pro wrestling history.
CM Punk has become one of the mainstays of AEW television and has feuded against the likes of Darby Allin, Eddie Kingston and others. Finally, CM Punk started a long-awaited feud with MJF.
Recently, CM Punk’s booking in AEW has been getting criticism for a lot of reasons, particularly the way he is portrayed in the company in the past couple of months. Punk simply said that fans need to wait for the big picture regarding his booking in AEW.
While speaking on ESPN SportsNation, CM Punk talked about his slow start in AEW. Punk stated that his slow start in AEW was his own choice.
Because very selfishly, it’s what I wanted to do. When you take seven years off of something that you’re pretty decent at and you’re priding yourself at having your finger on the pulse of everything. I think there’s an undercurrent and there’s a lot of young professional wrestlers out there that are probably better than a lot of people give them credit for. They just don’t have the spotlight. They don’t have anybody that’s saying, ‘Hey, look at this guy.’ Or they do but just not on a national level.
I think I could use my name, whatever value that has, and kind of highlight some of the guys while knocking off some ring rust and moving myself up the ladder. So for storyline purposes, it makes sense to me. And I always remember guys helping me and they were few and far between. I think more people should help more people and I’m just trying to do my best to do that.”
It remains to be seen how AEW will keep on booking CM Punk and MJF’s feud as it further intensifies each week.
