Roman Reigns returns to SmackDown tonight after some time off, and the Universal Champion will address the recent actions of Brock Lesnar. It’s unclear if Brock will be on the show but we’re eager to see more of the new coverall-wearing, funny farmer with a mean streak. Unfortunately, this is one of those weeks where WWE hasn’t announced any matches or segments at the time of writing, but we assume we’ll see the likes of Sami Zayn, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Charlotte Flair.
And that’s the (sparse) preview for tonight’s SmackDown. Our live coverage will begin from 8PM right here. Let us know if you’re excited about any of it and remember to hit the refresh link below and enjoy the show!
This week’s show opens with a look back at last week’s SmackDown, where Sami Zayn was brought out in a wheelchair before being confronted by Paul Heyman, and then attacked by Brock Lesnar. We see Paul Heyman standing outside the arena, awaiting the arrival of the Universal Champion, Roman Reigns.
We go live to the arena in Chicago and Toni Storm is already in the ring. She’s joined by her partner, Sasha Banks, and their opponents thereafter.
The tag match begins with Toni and Shotzi and they lock-up. Storm takes her down with a side headlock but Shotzi breaks free. Toni shoots her off and hits a big boot, then tags Sasha Banks. They look for a double team but Shotzi tags Flair and she slowly gets in the ring to lock-up with Banks. Sasha avoids Flair and connects with a hurricanrana. Sasha takes a headlock and tags Storm but Flair clocks her, then kicks Banks off the apron. Shotzi tags in and sends Storm out as well.

Shanky backs him into the corner and lands some back elbows, then chops him in the chest and shoulder tackles him. Jinder tags back in and continues the offense until Ivar gets the tag and runs over him.
Ivar tries to knock Shanky off the apron to no avail, then Jinder grabs him from behind. Ivar cartwheels past Jinder and drops him, then tags Erik who body slams him onto Jinder. Shanky tags in but gets knocked down in the corner and Ivar lands a hip attack. Erik intercepts Mahal and sends him out of the ring, then Ivar goes up top for a splash and the pinfall.

Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss come to the ring where the desk with the sword is sitting. Corbin says the desk is an expensive piece of furniture that doubles as a hat rack and Moss puts his hat on the sword. Moss then tells some of his terrible jokes and the fans start chanting “CM Punk”. Corbin says he loves his razor-sharp wit and so he gifts the sword to Moss.
Madcap tries to pull the sword out of the desk but he can’t. Corbin then tries and he can’t either. Drew McIntyre finally comes out and makes his way to the ring where the unfunny duo are still struggling with the sword. Drew asks if they’re gaving performance issues, then attacks them both. Jey tagged in but the referee missed it and Woods runs over to shove him off the top rope to the floor. Meanwhile Kingston catches Jimmy with Trouble In Paradise and the New Day score the pinfall.
Paul Heyman is still waiting outside and Roman Reigns finally arrives at the arena. Heyman is standing with the title and Roman says “let’s go out to my ring”.
*Commercial Break*
Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman make their way to the ring. Reigns takes the microphone and tells Chicago to acknowledge him. Roman says he’s said it before and he thought he’d made it clear; he doesn’t like it when his cousins lose. Roman asks Jey if he knows that and he nods. Roman says they’re still family and they can get through anything.
Roman turns and points at Heyman, “but you, you’re not my blood.” Heyman should know better than anyone that he can’t have people disrespecting him. So he’s going to ask some questions he’s asked before; “can I trust you wiseman?” Roman says he took a week off but he knows everything that goes on and Heyman looked a little shady to him. He asks if Heyman knew Brock was coming back at SummerSlam? If he’d be at MSG? If his suspension was going to be lifted? And, most importantly, is he a special council or an advocate?
Heyman looks scared and lost for words and he requests the microphone but Roman won’t give it to him. Heyman gets one from the announcer and goes to speak but Roman asks him to acknowledge him with the truth, “why are you protecting Brock Lesnar from me?” Heyman laughs and says “my tribal chief, I’m not protecting Brock Lesnar from you, I’m protecting you from Brock Lesnar.”
Reigns is not happy. Roman hugs Heyman and says “I love you wiseman, and I thank you for your honesty. And I thank you for forty years of service to my family. And you’re fired.” Heyman looks shocked and Roman drops him with a Superman punch that the fans loved. Reigns requests two chairs and he wants a con-chair-to but Lesnar’s music hits and he runs down to the ring and bowls over Jimmy and Jey. Brock hits both with F5’s on the floor, then slides into the ring. Roman hits Brock with the chair a few times but Lesnar scoops him up and hits an F5. The fans cheer and Lesnar hits a second F5 to end the show.
