Bryan Danielson recently spoke to Sports Illustrated to promote the Winter Is Coming edition of AEW Dynamite on TNT. In a conversation with Justin Barrasso, Danielson made some pretty bold claims ahead of his match against current champion Adam Page.

It seems that Danielson is convinced that he is the best candidate for the AEW Championship title. Danielson’s reasoning is that fans want to be able to claim that the champion is the best wrestler in the world, and they can have that if he is the champion.

AEW fans want to be able to claim that the AEW champion is the best wrestler in the world. If I am the AEW world champion, then they can make that claim.

Danielson’s confidence does not mean that he is taking the Hangman lightly. He acknowledged that fans love Page, but still insisted that he will be “the best champion in the world if [he becomes] the AEW champion.”

Danielson also gave props to Page for his growth, both from an in-ring perspective and a character perspective, comparing him to WWE Hall of Famer, Steve Austin.

To me, he wrestles a modernized version of the way Steve Austin wrestled, and that cowboy persona reminds a lot of people of Steve Austin.

Regardless of the outcome of the fight, fans are sure to have a hell of a show. After all, Danielson himself has promised that “it’s going to be a fight. It’s going to be everything we love about professional wrestling.”
