Johnny Gargano has been touted as the face of NXT by many fans due to his excellent feuds with the likes of Tommaso Ciampa and Adam Cole. He has numerous nicknames such as Johnny Wrestling, Johnny TakeOver and more and they are all for a good reason. It seems there is a reason why he left WWE.

During this week’s episode of NXT 2.0, Gargano made it clear that his status in NXT is up in the air. However, many fans realized that it was truly the end of the line for Johnny Gargano. That turned out to be true as he is now officially a free agent.

According to Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was said that if Johnny Gargano has stayed in NXT 2.0, he wouldn’t have been the focus at all. Rather, he would be there to put over younger talent.

“In the case of Gargano, at press time he had not made up his mind and it was categorized by those close to him as a difficult decision. He was given a strong offer to stay, but the reality is he would be in NXT, with the new direction, he would not be the focus, but he probably would be kept somewhat strong with the idea of having him mean something to teach and put over the talent they are looking for on the main roster.”

Gargano was attacked during his farewell promo this week on NXT 2.0 by Grayson Waller, which essentially meant he helped put over a younger talent before leaving the company. We will have to wait and see what is next in store for Johnny Gargano as his time in WWE is seemingly done.
