Kurt Angle was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017. Wrestling’s first Olympic gold medalist enjoyed a stellar run with the company, becoming a four-time WWE Champion. His HOF induction was his first appearance for the company in over a decade.

When it came time for Vince McMahon to review Angle’s prepared comments, Kurt said the boss made a modest request. Angle said Vince didn’t want his name included in the speech. He shared the story on the latest Kurt Angle Show.

“I had, ‘I want to thank Vince McMahon for everything he did for me,’ and he said, ‘Kurt, take that out.’ He said, ‘I don’t want anybody thanking me, I do not want a thank you. I don’t even want you to thank the company.

I want you to thank the fans and whoever else you want, but do not thank me or the company. Leave my name out of it.’ That’s how Vince is, he never wants the credit for anything.”

Vince McMahon is unlikely to ever induct himself into the Hall of Fame while he’s still living. While his on-screen character is that of a bombastic egomaniac, he does sometimes show shreds of humanity. His disapproval of wrestlers thanking him shows he has some amount of humility.

Vince McMahon recently made his return to WWE television. He was involved in a sponsored angle to promote The Rock’s Netflix movie “Red Notice.” The storyline involved the search for the theft of a valuable golden egg.
