Vince Russo is one of the most controversial figures in the history of professional wrestling. Every time he shares an opinion, fans become polarized. Love him or hate him, he was with WWE during one of their major boom periods and is a part of wrestling history.
Russo recently spoke on Writing With Russo about Austin Theory’s booking. He talked about what he’d do with Austin Theory if it were still the Attitude Era. Russo also said his booking would be much different than what WWE is currently doing.
“If Vince Russo is doing this job, JR [Jim Ross] is telling me, ‘Vince, this kid Austin Theory is ready.’ That’s what JR is telling me. ‘Alright, no problem, bro, when can I get together with Austin Theory?’ I will have my one-on-one with Austin Theory. Bro, I will get so far into his head to find out what makes this guy tick.
Then I would personally produce the vignettes for six weeks before we ever see the guy, then we continue those vignettes right into the show. This ain’t a part-time job, bro! It’s not a part-time job! And that’s why you’re getting this mish-mosh mess from these two guys.”
Russo was referring to Vince McMahon and Tony Khan when he said “these two guys.” He believes the bookers are failing to focus on storylines enough. He believes there’s not enough attention being paid to the details.
Austin Theory has been appearing in segments with Vince McMahon since Survivor Series. He received a WWE Title shot from the Chairman after stealing Vince’s prized golden egg. Vince Russo would take an entirely different approach to build up the hype for Theory before even debuting him.
