One of the main events for the upcoming WWE Day 1 pay-per-view is a three-way for the WWE Championship between Big E, Seth Rollins, and Kevin Owens. At WWE house shows recently, the company has been presenting fans with a four-way match. The fourth man in those matches is Bobby Lashley.
According to Dave Meltzer on the latest Wrestling Observer Live, the plan is to try and make the match a four-way. That would explain Lashley’s decimation of Big E, Rollins, and Owens on last night’s Raw. Meltzer says that’s the reason they’ve been experimenting with the matchup on house shows.
“They’ve been doing four-ways at the house shows, so that’s what they’re probably setting up — and it was with the same four guys.”
Lashley made a run-in during a commercial break after the WWE Champion defeated Seth Rollins in a cage match. WWE wants to make the Day 1 pay-per-view a huge annual event. They are clearly throwing everything at the card to try and pique fan interest.
There are several other matches set for Day 1. Among them is the grudge match between Edge and The Miz that has been building for weeks. Brock Lesnar will challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship. The Usos will take on The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships.
WWE Day 1 will air live from Atlanta, Georgia on New Year’s Day. With an exciting card already building, WWE will look to hit a home run and create a buzz about their new holiday tradition. Fans can check out the show on January 1, 2022 live on Peacock.
