NXT has been facing some roster turnover. As WWE attempts to bring the brand in line with their more youth-oriented style, several more experienced wrestlers have been let go. The company would prefer to develop young, athletic people with little or no wrestling experience going forward.
Roderick Strong is one of the veteran names that many fans thought might wind up somewhere else. We now can confirm that Strong re-signed with WWE already. Sean Sapp of Fightful tweeted the confirmation on the morning of December 6.
“For those asking, Roderick Strong re-signed with WWE earlier this year”
Roderick Strong re-signing might leave him as one of the few old guard wrestlers left in NXT 2.0. Kyle O’Reilly and Johnny Gargano’s contracts are up. They are expected to make their farewell appearance on the rainbow brand on Tuesday night.
As for the NXT Cruiserweight Champion, he’ll be sticking with WWE for a while. The terms of the contract were not named, but the company did offer Gargano and O’Reilly multi-year deals. We’ll see if Roderick Strong comments further on his status with the company.
Strong defended his NXT Cruiswerweight champion against 245-pound Joe Gacy at last night’s NXT WarGames PPV. Gacy had been threatening to re-brand the title as the “All Inclusive Championship.” Instead, Roderick Strong will continue as the face of the division.
