Since NXT 2.0’s inception, the WWE brand’s landscape has surely changed. Some would argue that said landscape has changed for the worse, but there are those that love the fresh new faces amidst the men and women that made the brand what it is today.
Such older members of the roster that helped shape NXT include Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa and of course Kyle O’Reilly. Of course we’ve all heard from Tommaso Ciampa and the fact that he doesn’t see himself anywhere else was read loud and clear by all, but what of the other two epic talents?
As it would turn out, Gargano signed a contract extension in order to be a part of the War Games matchup set for tonight’s event. There has been a lot of news about he being pursued by WWE to re-sign and possibly for a main roster callup, but the fact that he signed only an extension is very reminiscent of what occurred with Adam Cole by summer’s end.
Cole signed an extension to finish up with a then ongoing feud with the aforementioned O’Reilly, but once that extension was up, he was AEW-bound and seemingly very happy to be. Seeing that O’Reilly signed only an extension, can this mean that he is likely to do what Cole did a few months ago? This of course remains to be seen.
What of O’Reilly? His contract is up and after the tension-filled feud he was in with Adam Cole before Cole’s own departure from the company, the current status he has over at NXT only pales in comparison. He is being underutilized – as many are within the company right now, and many are wondering if this doesn’t spell ‘The End’ for for him in NXT as well.
Over in AEW, Adam Cole has been indirectly referencing the Undisputed Era pretty aggressively, especially with the presence of Bobby Fish – someone O’Reilly knows very well. Fans of reDRagon will remember that well. In fact, PW Insider believes that this week could very well spell ‘The End’ for this awesome talent in NXT, but the future still looks bright indeed regardless.
We will have to see what happens in the future, but Kyle O’Reilly’s talents could certainly be useful elsewhere.
