NWA wrestler ‘The Pope’ Elijah Burke was rushed to a hospital in Atlanta following a spot that took place at the company’s “Hard Times 2” PPV last night.
According to PWInsider, Burke was involved in an angle after the show’s main event, which saw NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion Trevor Murdoch retain his title against Mike Knox in a single’s match.
Murdoch was then confronted by Matt Cardona. The distraction by Cardona caused Knox to take down the champion with a low blow and the two ganged up on Murdoch until hardcore legend Mick Foley appeared.
Foley said he had a surprise for both Cardona and Knox. The surprise was revealed to be Burke, who rushed to the ring to take on the two men. At one point during the brawl, Burke was launched into the steps outside the ring.
The impact reportedly caused some damage as Burke was seen limping. Multiple officials including NWA head honcho Billy Corgan rushed to the ringside to check on the wrestler.
Burke was later transported to the nearest hospital where medical staff examined him for possible injury. He also X-rays as well as multiple tests done on him in order to determine whether he injured himself during the event.
