Roderick Strong is set to defend the NXT Cruiserweight Championship at Sunday’s NXT WarGames pay-per-view. The title defense against Joe Gacy might turn out to be one of the last. Gacy has been teasing a change of the title to the “All-Inclusive” Championship as part of his “woke” gimmick.
Dave Meltzer said on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that he’s heard rumblings that there were changes coming for the title. Gacy’s on-air tease may be the direction they decide to go. There have been several discussions about doing something different with the title.
Ideas such as a legitimate 205-pound weight limit have been floated. Wrestlers were even told to start cutting weight if they wanted to compete in the division. Ultimately those plans fell through.
If Gacy were to change the title, it would essentially become a secondary NXT championship like the North American title. Of course, the change may just be temporary as a part of Joe Gacy’s character work. All of this assumes that he wins the title Sunday in the first place.
Roderick Strong won the NXT Cruiserweight Title from Kushida on the second week of the rebranded NXT 2.0. He’s held the title ever since, but frequently has worked with much larger wrestlers, such as Odyssey Jones. Joe Gacy’s listed weight is 245 pounds, so changing the title would make sense if he were to capture it.
WWE NXT WarGames takes place on Sunday, December 5. The show starts at 8PM. Fans can catch the PPV on Peacock in the United States.
