Scotty 2 Hotty announced today that he had requested his release from his role in WWE as a producer. That leaves a gap where there could be some big shake-ups taking place in terms of who produces what and where. One former WWE Tag Team Champion may be on his way to the main roster.
Fightful Select has reported that Kenny Dykstra, former member of the Spirit Squad, has been producing several dark matches before Raw and Smackdown. He solely produced two matches in mid-November. He’s also produced dark matches before other WWE tapings.
“There were some interesting notes that emerged from a series of dark matches filmed on the most recent episodes of Smackdown. Former WWE Tag Team Champion Kenny Dykstra was listed as the sole producer of two matches filmed in mid-November. Dykstra, still only 35 years old himself, actually produced talent in the Viking Raiders that are older than him, as they took on Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams. There was also a match between Cora Jade and Dakota Kai. He did the same on last week’s dark matches ahead of Smackdown.
It wasn’t exclusive to Smackdown, as he was also credited as the producer on Main Event matches ahead of Raw, and helped produce a match on Raw itself.”
Dykstra debuted in WWE as a member of the all-male cheerleading faction The Spirit Squad. He returned as a singles competitor from 2006 through 2008. He’s been working as a trainer at the WWE performance center since October.
Now, it looks like he’s getting a shot as a producer. There has been a movement to bring in more people to serve in the role for WWE. Kenny Dykstra may soon be producing main roster televised matches.
