Seth Rollins’ assault by a fan on WWE Raw last night resulted in criminal charges against 24-year-old Elisah Spencer. Spencer was picked up by NYPD on charges including attempted assault and a violation of arts and cultural affairs. Rollins was wounded, but not seriously injured, in the attack.

While the investigation is ongoing, any speculation about the perpetrator’s motives remains just that. What we do know is that Spencer will have his first appearance before a judge sometime in December. TMZ Sports reported on the upcoming date.

In the wake of tragedies involving fans attending events such as Astroworld, it’s alarming to see how easily Spencer was able to jump the rail and get to Rollins. Rollins was jumped from behind as he made his entrance to the ring for a promo. Seth suffered a busted lip in the attack.

WWE issued a statement in the aftermath of the incident noting that they would pursue full prosecution of the offender. Rollins refused medical treatment at the scene. Photos showed the WWE wrestler with a fat lip.

After the assault, Rollins’ girlfriend, Becky Lynch, checked on him. Fortunately, nobody was seriously injured. WWE security quickly subdued Spencer after he attempted to tackle the superstar.

Fans should expect security to be tightened at WWE live events. The company is gearing up for a holiday tour in addition to the usual Raw and SmackDown shows. Hopefully nobody is stupid enough to do this again any time soon.
