AAA Lucha Libre has announced the second challenger for Kenny Omega’s vacated Mega Championship. Yesterday, the promotion said that El Hijo de Vikingo would be one of the challengers for the title. We now know that the other challenger will be Samuray del Sol, the former Kalisto in WWE.

Samuray hasn’t wrestled for AAA since 2012. TripleMania Regia will be the first TripleMania event Samuray del Sol has taken part in. He was released by WWE in April after creative differences with the company. He made a special guest appearance on a recent episode of AEW Dynamite.

Facing multiple surgeries to deal with nagging injuries, Kenny Omega was forced to vacate the AAA Mega Championship yesterday. He was the longest raining champion in the history of the title. Now, a new wrestler will carry the title.

During his AEW appearance, Samuray teamed with AAA luchador Aerostar to take on FTR for the AAA Tag Team titles. Shortly after, he was involved in a controversy with Brody Lee’s wife, Amanda Huber, over a misspelling of the late wrestler’s name. He has not returned to AEW since the incident.

AAA TripleMania Regia takes place on December 4 in Monterrey, Mexico. The former WWE Cruiserweight and Tag Team champion will take his act south of the border, where he has a history with the fans. He performed in AAA as Octagon Jr. earlier in his career.

The match will likely be a multi-person match. AAA tweeted that more contenders will be announced throughout the day. It is unknown if any AEW wrestlers are planned to work in the title match.
