AEW has a fine home with WarnerMedia, but some rumors are out there about what TNT requested of Tony Khan’s company. A rumor about TNT asking for women’s wrestling has been floating around out there for a while now.
Fightful Select reported to clarify this rumor about TNT sending down a decree to AEW saying that they must feature a women’s match per episode. Neither side confirmed this request was made, but TNT does like to have a good social rating for their show. That being said, the fact that AEW features women’s wrestling is a good thing.
Fightful has spoken to sources within AEW and Turner who have indicated that was never a decree made, and a request for more or less women’s matches wasn’t something that was outlined or passed along to others within the company. Instead, we’re told that WarnerMedia is more focused on good content, and particularly enjoy when the program has a good social rating and a television ratings story, as indicated by the press releases they send to media when the show performs well in viewership.
WarnerMedia is very happy with AEW and the results that they have been able to bring in so far. There could be more to this story, but they are not copping to anything concrete right now. In the end, AEW featuring women’s wrestling on TNT is certainly not discouraged in the slightest.
