Ric Flair hasn’t wrestled since 2011. He’s 72-years-old and was effectively blackballed from the pro wrestling business after a negative public reaction to the Dark Side of the Ring episode about the “plane ride from hell.” That still hasn’t kept The Nature Boy from stirring the pot with talk of a possible return to the ring.
On the latest episode of his Wooo Nation Uncensored podcast, Flair said not only does he hope to return to wrestling, he hopes to step into the ring for a match. He says he’s in better shape than he was twenty years ago. Flair blames wrestling promotions not wanting to deal with the liability issues of an elderly man is what’s keeping it from happening.
“Most assuredly, and a lot of conversation. That talk hasn’t happened, but could I do it? Absolutely. I’m in better shape now than I was when Sting and I wrestled the last match on Nitro. WWE won’t let me do anything, even though I’m released.
I understand, they have so much liability and I told them I would sign anything, but nobody wants me to die on their watch. I’d rather die in the ring. If I have to go. I’d rather not jump off the 19th floor or spend another 31 days in the ICU.”
Flair most recently appeared in wrestling at the NWA 73 event and in an altercation in AAA involving Kenny Omega. He was released from several sponsorship deals after allegations of sexual assault aboard a WWE-chartered plane went viral due to the Dark Side episode.
If Flair is serious about wrestling one final match, the opportunities are likely limited. Ric Flair is still toxic after the bombshell allegations caught the attention of the public. WWE even removed him from their opening video package. Of course, there is probably some promoter out there with more money than brains that is seeing dollar signs.
