CM Punk and Eddie Kingston treated fans to a brutal fight at Saturday’s AEW Full Gear pay-per-view. After the show, Tony Khan and his wrestlers held a media scrum to talk about the show. He made some interesting comments about what AEW was doing to please the fan base.

Punk said that a lot of WWE cans came over with him when he made his comeback in AEW. He talked about how the company differs from WWE. They target wrestling fans, as opposed to “casual fans.” In fact, Punk doesn’t believe the latter exists anymore.

“I don’t know if everybody who was a WWE fan came over here specifically just to watch me but what I recognize in front of an AEW audience is an audience that I used to wrestle in front of prior to coming to the WWE. They’re wrestling fans yanno and I will never understand the criticism of appealing to your fan base.

If this is our fan base, give them what they want and everybody’s happy. Now I understand building a business, people talk about trying to get casuals here, I don’t think there’s casual wrestling fans anymore.

My opinion, maybe I’m wrong and maybe somebody at TNT is going to get mad because I’m saying this and am of this opinion but our fans are wrestling fans and we give them wrestling.”

CM Punk got fans buzzing with his signature subtle moves during his match with Kingston. Punk played off the crowd brilliantly as Eddie took on the role of unexpected babyface. Fans are excited to see where each wrestler heads next as AEW begins developing new storylines after Full Gear.
