CM Punk’s debut two months ago at AEW Rampage: The First Dance truly changed the pro wrestling world for many fans. Since his debut Punk has faced off against q variety of opponents. It seems Tony Khan has an interesting comparison for CM Punk getting booed at AEW Full Gear.
Punk squared off against Eddie Kingston in a very physical and personal match, which had only a couple of weeks of buildup. Despite that, the match more than surpassed expectations.
The Second City Saint was also booed by fans during the match, which many found surprising. In the end, CM Punk managed to win the match.
While speaking during the post-AEW Full Gear media scrum, AEW President Tony Khan talked about CM Punk getting booed during his match against Eddie Kingston. He stated that it felt the same as The Rock getting booed at WrestleMania 18 against Hulk Hogan.
“I remember being the only person out of 70,000 cheering for The Rock in Toronto. My friend looked over me like, “what are you doing?” I was like, ‘somebody has to.’ That’s how I felt about Punk getting booed tonight [at Full Gear]. There were way more Punk people tonight than there were Rock people in Toronto. I can attest as I was there for both shows.”
The match has been touted as CM Punk’s best match since debuting in AEW. We will have to wait and see what is next in store for CM Punk.
